AT&T Fraud Department

I called AT&T to order a new phone. The customer service pulled up someone else's account.

I ask three times during the conversation if she was sure this was my account? She responded yes. When I received the conformation email it had someone elses information not mine. I called the next day and they told me not to worry about it, just reorder the phone since no activity was showing up on my account.

Apparently they shut off this womans phone and she went to the store and was told someone hacked her account. It was turned over to the fraud department and they in turn contacted local law enforcement. I had my rights read to me by an officer and was taken to the station to give a statement letting me know I am being investigated for fraud and identity theft! I called AT&T and they told me there was nothing they could do for me.

I have hired an attorney and now this Ciber Detective is investigating me and accusing me of trying to steal someones identity. I have called several times and told them to check there records and phone recordings because I have done nothing wrong. The incorrect phone was never actived and returned.

I am incurring a great deal of stress and expense, plus they will not even let me out of my contract so I can be done with them.

I am having a problem with global fraud also. The people they need to be investigating that is committing fraud they don't anyway they have cut my house phone off after months of service and stated that my son social security number does not match and they need proofs of address and a id and ss card.

ok why would you need all that to prove the correct ss #? They called last week and stated they was trying to see was I accepting calls from the prison where I have been talking to a guy. The calls are recorded so they can see what is being said.

what i haven't gotten is why everytime you get on the phone they have a different story of whats going on and what needs to be sent in. when i get this straight i am cutting off service and finding someone else for my phone and internet service and then i am going to find a lawyer to take me case for false accusations and interruption a services that did not work work a flip anyways.

Guest

Almost the same thing happened to us at&t disconnected our land line saying my mom(85)is opening an acct with different SS# we don't have land line right now!!!

Guest

Someone hacked in to my account changed my information and ordered two replacement phones. They didnt give me a chance to explain and accused me of theft and disconnected my line.

They are very rude. :cry

not only rude, bunch of bunch of menopausal *** :(

Guest

I opened an account for the first time with at&t and I didn't have my current license on me with my new address, so I told the sales girl to put in my original address instead of the one on the license cause I no longer live there, she did the complete opposite and my phone was turned off within couple hours and turned over to the fraud department. Long story short, I tried talking to them, the manager of the store tried talking to them and we got no where so I ended up returning my christmas gifts cause they canceled the account. I would never deal with them again, they are a bunch of crooks.

AT&T: never solved the problems, very rude, and lied

I had AT&T phone service and high-speed internet for year. In recent months the internet became really slow sometimes and also had a lot of outage -- completely no connections, sometimes for days. I made tons of calls, wasted hours, problems not resolved. All I got was AT&T tech support blamed my computers, modems, routers for the problems. Once they lied to me that there was an outage in my area. I then asked around --- other guys were just fine. One person promised something, another person completely denied it. I pointed out a mistake of a tech support about bits versus bytes. He literally laughed at me, and tried to test my knowledge about bits and bytes. To tell you the truth, I am an electrical engineer. They think all customers are ignorant and they can fool all customers? Complained to their complaint VP(?) but no reply. They used to give the option to review the calls, but recently I was not given this option. They dare not to face the customer. Finally I canceled everything from AT&T.

AT&T Charging Twice for iPhone 5 Upgrade

I upgraded my phone and my daughters phone to iPhone 5 on AT&T's website. We used a separate credit card for each phone... AT&T billed us both twice for each of our phones then when I called, AT&T tried to say it's the Banks issue! We both used our own credit card and they are at two different banks. AT&T kept shuffling me around for about 45mins before someone came on the phone and said they will credit back to our cards within 24 - 72 hours. Has anyone else had or seen this issue when upgrading online?

They charged my debit card the minute I preorder my phone and again once the phone had been shipped. Please let me know what number and what steps to take to have my money credited Thanks

AT & T wants to get into your wallet

I call AT&T to check on Internet connection problems. I had to purchase a new wireless modem from AT&T. The operator states that the life span is 3-4 years. I guess modems are profit centers. Then I'm given instructions on how to set up the modem. Rather simple so far. He then offers a technical paid service for any other issues I may have. I get the modem and the simple instructions do not work. I call AT&T and they go through many more steps to get my desk top working. She then asks if I will be adding any wireless devices and I say yes, but I state that your "simple instructions" should make this easy. She offers the techinical paid service that would be beyond what she just did. I decline. I then follow the easy to use instructions and it does not work. I call again and not able to help, but AGAIN a paid service is available or call Apple to hook up. Where are the Southwestern Bell people, it use to be a great company. The AT&T people are terrible and they are training a new group of terrible employees. If not why did AT&T need to be purchased by SWB. AT&T sucked before and still suck, since their business practices are ruining the name AGAIN.

Deceived me about services I did not need

I have an ATT U-Verse combined billing account; which includes land line service. I have been a customer with ATT and/or SBC for many years. I was lead to believe that I needed a land line to maintain my internet and/or tv service. For years I would call customer service stating that I am calling to save money and that I never use my land line service. On 08/10/2012 I called as I always do stating that I am calling to save money stating that I don't use my land line. Finally a representative told me that I did not need it to maintain other services. Wow! was I elated, and upset at the same time. I was also told by this representative that I had no need for this service for years. He did state that there was an initial need for the service but that once I voice my concerns about the land line that I should have been informed that there was no need for it. While I appreciate the conscienciousness of this representative, I am very upset to know that I could have saved $30 a month over an undetermined amount of years beyond 3yrs. ATT told me that they are very sorry for the inconvenience and initially offer me $30 credit for the previous month. I complained a little more and the offered me $49. I told them that while I would accept this initial offer of accountability, that this is a fraction of accountability. is this offer a claim of responsibility? It would seem that if I have been a customer for more than 10yrs that they would be more considerate; especially since crediting me the full amount over the years would only mean a drop in the billion dollar bucket of ATT profits. But I am just a customer who can cancel my service and move on and possibly get treated this way by someone else and ATT would not break a sweat, miss a beat, etc. Unless there are more of me out there. I don't know how to take this further but it would be nice to know that there is a leagal mind out there reading some of these complaints.

AT&T customer service issue

I have been a customer of AT&T for many years now. Pay them $80/mth on time every month. My IPhone 4 broke last weekend and I am eligible for an upgrade to IPhone 5 in 6 weeks. I called Customer Service, they told me they would wave the upgrade difference between $449 (if I bought the phone now) and $199 if I bought the phone in 6 weeks. I didn't see this difference reflected on my account, called back and was on hold a total of 30MINUTES! AT&T told me what they will wave is the $36 upgrade fee not the difference. I'm switching over to Sprint

I know how you feel. I have had AT&T for almost 10years now and have had serious issues but as the saying goes the early bird gets the worm, the one who yells the loudest gets heard.

Keep pressing them ask to speak with a supervisor don't let them use the famous lines....everyone is busy, no ones available & such. Last year, I purchased the HTC inspire, this year my phone started shutting off randomly and nothing worked to get it fixed so they told me to call the insurance line, now mind you, we've had the "insurance" coverage since day one, no one ever told us that as you upgrade the insurance really doesn't cover anything, anyway, I called the insurance company and everything seemed to go well until I heard those dreaded words, " how would you like to pay the $125.00 fee?" What? $125? Wait what happened to the $50 fee that we've always paid?

Of course because of the upgrades blah blah blah that fee went up. Making a long story short, after arguing with them for almost an hour, I received a new phone, upgrade for $170!! Which they were trying to get me to pay $279 or whatever the before price was for the one x that was just coming out.

Okay, I've said all this to say, keep pressing keep following up with calls and complaints...we the consumer have the power not that *** who is on the other end.

Companies understand what a loss and bad publicity will do. Yes you may be only one person but it only takes one to start the ball and believe me, you're not alone with complaints about their service.

AT&T..Mr Eric Watts(OFFICE of the President) REALLY?????

On September 11th my home phone service was disconnected, because I was VERY dissatisfied with the monthly bills I was receiving. However, since I had been a longstanding customer, I opted to continue on with AT&T and called to have my service restored.

As of TODAY, not only have I paid TWO fifty dollar deposits (one has been credited back) one has not and I STILL am unable to resolve with anyone at your company why I have no home phone service. The real problem is that I had a bilateral mastectomy( removal of both breast) on September because I have Stage 3 breast cancer, I have a Medicaid cell phone, which I am only issued 250 minutes a month and have had to pay additional money on because I am on the phone at LEAST an hour and forty-five minutes EACH day I have called with STILL no resolution. I have not been able to get my original number of 615-316-**** back.

I callled the same day September 11th when and was charged 50 dollars which was taken out of my checking account the very next day. The confirmation number for my phone payment deposit was given to me as 3P87CSR1YO1WY57 AND THE ORDER NUMBER N982P0L0, AND a new home number of 615 316 ****, and assured my phone would be on "no later than midnight." Not even close to the truth.

My senior and medically challenged dad had his home line stolen and turned into a cellular line through T-Mobile and Sprint Boost on September 21, 2015. Nothing ever resolved to this day, even after speaking to Eric Watts.

What a joke! Now thief's are trying to open accounts in his name and police reports filed. AT&T, I hope your aging parents have endure the same situation some day! The worst service ever.

Even filed complaints with FTC and yet to hear back from anyone!

AT&T Unconscionable Charges - Unbelievable RIPOFF

My wife and I recently had 2 AT&T lines established at our new home - I considered Voice over IP as an alternative but was concerned about voice quality. I should have worried more about being ripped off by the unbelievable LIARS at the phone monopoly AT&T. We were told the total connection charge for both lines would be $80. I now sit here with two initial bills - one for $266.86 and one for $179.24, which include nearly $200 in wiring and other charges I was NEVER told about when I bought the service from the salesperson on the phone. When I called to complain the "customer service" rep asked me "did you ask about whether you would be charged for wiring and these other charges"? Truly. If you want wired phone service, AT&T is our ONLY choice, so if it costs money for them to get you hooked up I think they have a responsibility to tell you what those charges will be. Apparently they don't believe they need to be honest about this. Oh - and if I want to cancel it is going to cost me $224.00 to break this contract. I didn't know at the time that my contract was apparently with the Devil. I cannot begin to tell you how much I hate this unconscionable company right now. They are liars and rip-off artists and should be shut down.

Send me an e-mail to ATTAnthonyG@***.com with "JeCollie" within the subject line.

Thank you. Anthony AT&T Social Media Manager

What are you being charged for? there should be a breakdown of the charges. I suspect they had to wire your home. This takes time(labour charges)and phone cable(parts).

A better bet would have been to have them bring their wire up to the home and attach it outside in their box and then you do the inside wiring. It is rather simple and costs only for the wire.

I have had AT&T for decades and now pay $25.00 per month. You need a landline if you want reliable phone service. The VOIP you get thru Charter cable, etc. only works when the power is on and the internet is up. A landline works almost always.

WEB PAGE CHANGES

A new ATT web page is now up and running replacing the previous ATT web page. Unfortunately, the new ATT web page is not an improvement, as the previous ATT web page, when accessed, offered three differenct pages for a variety of views, whether it be financial, personal, or otherwise. At the same time, all bookmarks disappeared. Am I pleased with the new changes................not at all!!!!!! I so displeased that I am tempted to tell ATT to take all of the services that I currently purchase from ATT, internet, TV, phone, and head down the street as I replace them. Thanks.

Forced to pay an amount we didn't owe, and same amount sent to collections!!

Long story short (I'll try to make this short). We've been through Hades with AT&T. We went through up to 30 different calls to customer service. Went without internet services for 2 weeks, and were basically lied to several times. Now an account that was discontinued, we were promised any charges would be removed for that account, and now we are receiving a collection notice for an amount on that bill that we were never even asked to pay. This is after hours, but I'm so mad I can't see straight. This happened in February, for an amount that we were LIED into paying and we're already getting collection letters?? Ok first, we've had DSL for about 5-6 years. Intermittent billing problems have occurred causing service interuption. We live where we can't get hardly any service. My husband is on call with the Railroad and has been since he was 19, the whole time he's been here. Since then calls have come through fine. He'd get minimum 2 bars. enough to receive a call. Earlier this year, we had to get an MCell because service suddenly dropped and we would get intermittently 1 bar or no service. We were forced to pay $200 to get MCell to give up 3G service in the house through DSL. So in the middle of the night in January, he misses a call because DSL magically goes down. Why? Because a billing problem occurred, though he'd never changed cards they had his correct number, they forgot to charge him. So he misses a call worth $1000-**** to go to work. Mad... oh yeah we were. But we couldn't get mad because their disclaimer states they're only responsible for service not received (meaning about $.25 for that days service, or something in that ballpark). We called complained etc, were promised we could add a landline and bundle it. So we agree, lo and behold, we go out, pay $80 for a cordless phone set. And our internet never comes back on, landline works but DSL is down. We call tech support 5 more times. And they tell us we need a DSl filter. We go pay $20 for that. Doesn't work. We call back 3 more times. Apparently we are now told that we don't have capacity for both services on our line, we can only have a dry loop. So we have to choose, after much arguing and asking "WHY" we were told all these lies. We are told we physically can't have both and have to choose. So we tell him we would like the Landline but we MUST have the DSL even though we can't trust the DSl at least we'd have both phone and internet for the phone to work. So our DSL never comes back on... our landline is dead too. We call back and they tell us that our DSl dry loop account was canceled now there's a 2 week waiting period to check our credit again to get the DSL reinstated!! We go 2 full weeks, having his mom, myself and his cousins on backup for the railroad calls, waking them in the middle of the night so they can call non-stop till he might get 1 bar and answer the call and go to work. Mad.. oh you bet. But it gets better. We finally get it reinstated. Then they send us a letter in the mail saying we're past due $88.67. He calls thinking it's just the DSL and pays the balance PLUS the next month's bill in advance. PLUS the regular $32 bill for the dry loop comes out too! And guess what.. we get a collection notice in the mail for $88.67 which we discovered both he paid them PLUS didn't even owe in the first place since we literally had a working landline for 48 hours and were promised since the mixup was their mistake that we would be credited for the bill. And the landline was nowhere near $88!! They told us it would be about $35! What action can we take? They are completely uncooperative, are saying we owe this, that nothing reflects we had problems.. what do we do to get this off my husband's credit? We never even received a bill for this amount, only a collection notice! Seriously... after having the money to pay what they want, being lied to and THEN charged what we don't owe, the main thing is it HURTING OUR CREDIT. $88 is so insignificant it makes me so angry that we were lied to and it culminated in this mess!! If I ever get away from this house I am ditching EVERY SINGLE SERVICE I HAVE WITH ATT and we've been with them since they were Cingular in 1997!!! Pissed customer.. ex customer of 15 years!

I am sorry to hear about your troubles with AT&T although I'm not surprised. I recently have had some of the same issues with them.

Home phone line back in sept. did not work properly, discontinued service was told I would be credited. It is now May, so as a previous customer you can imagine what I have been going through. After I started getting letters from collections I was getting really mad because AT&T was not standing by what they were telling me and of course no notes were made on the account.

Recently, I saw the collection company tried putting this on my credit report, and I called att fuming! As typical fashion they could not tell me anything. I was sick of dealing with them, their lies, and awful customer service so I contacted the Better Bussiness Bureau. Within a day or two of filing the complaint I did hear back from a lady named Loni from the headquarters.

I was not able to take her call but she did leave a voicemail telling me that the cant was zeroed out, and if I wanted to be emailed documentation to call her back. When she left her contact info she did speak really soft I had to listen to it about fives times to get everything. It has been almost 2 days and I have had no follow up call regarding my mesg.

Or email of my cant info. This still remains on my credit as sice sept per my request AT&T has failed to send me any documentation of my closed accountant.

AT&T GoPhone Scam

Summary I've had an AT&T GoPhone for about a year. I went to use it and found the phone blocked. Upon calling AT&T I found the phone had been reported stolen and the $131 account balance had been transferred to another account. AT&T confessed to the theft report and account balance having been carried out in an usual manner. The thief did not have the pass code to the phone, but was able to use the account activation date to verify they "owned" the phone. The most likely source for that information would be poorly secured AT&T records Despite my proving I had the phone in hand, had the secret pass code, and had not reported the phone stolen, AT&T refused to credit my account with the full account balance. They would only credit $50. AT&T has as full record of the theft and the account to which the balance was transferred. AT&T is fully responsible for allowing this to happen. It is my contention that AT&T owes me $81 in credit and needs to provide better security on these accounts. Details I have had an AT&T pre-paid GoPhone for about a year. I keep it at a remote property in Colorado as the "house" phone. It gets used about once a week. We took a vacation in March and the phone was unused for almost three weeks. At the time the phone had $131 in credit on the account. Upon returning, I went to use the phone and found it was blocked. When trying to make a local call it would fail over to a pre-recorded message telling me to call 611 for assistance. This I did. After 10 minutes of working through the automated menu *** AT&T calls service, I finally reached a live attendant. He as pleasant and upon being advised that I could not make calls with the phone checked the account. He informed me I had reported the phone stolen and cancelled the account. I told him I had not done this and that the phone was not stolen. I was in fact using it to call him. He assured me I had cancelled the phone. Holding my temper, I explained no one had access to the phone other than myself and it had been unused for almost three weeks. I asked that the phone be re-activated, which was done. Part of the activation process involved the attendant sending a text to the phone which I read back to him. Suspicions aroused, I asked him to check the credit on the account. "Your account balance is 36¢", was the cheerful reply. "Hold up", I responded, "there should be over $120 on the account". Silence and key clicking ensued as he confirmed this. "Yes", was the eventual response, "you transferred the account balance of $131.71 to another number when you reported the phone stolen". He went on to explain the entire transaction was bit unusual, in that the perpetrator used the phone number and activation date to verify they owned the phone. He would not give me the number the account balance had been transferred to. I again stated I had NOT reported the phone stolen or transfer the account balance. I also provided the secret access code for the phone to further establish my bona fides. The attendant went off to confer with his managers. After 10 – 15 minutes on hold, he came back online and confirmed that the entire transaction looked suspicious. However, because the account cancellation and transfer had taken place in a "legitimate" manner, the best they would do was provide a $50 credit. I told him this was not acceptable and that I wanted a full credit of the amount stolen. We went a couple of rounds in this vein before I insisted on speaking with a supervisor. In short order Jennifer came on the line and we had the entire discussion all over again. She also said the way the account had been accessed and changed was very unusual. She could not tell me how the thief was able to obtain the activation date nor would she tell me the number the account balance had been transferred to. From my perspective the only way the thief could have obtained the activation date was to have access to AT&T records. So we have a stolen account balance. AT&T has as full record of the theft and the account to which the balance was transferred. AT&T is fully responsible for allowing this to happen. Yet AT&T refused to credit the stolen balance back to my phone. After over an hour of frustration and aggravation, I accepted the $50 credit and had the pass code to the phone changed. It is my contention that AT&T owes me $81 in credit and needs to improve their GoPhone account security measures.

Go to the FCC. I had to when they messed with the towers and I could no longer get a signal anywhere near me.

I fought with them for 2 yrs wanting the refund of $191.00, and they kept extending my expiration date because I could not use the phone and they refused to give me back my money.

Said I was not getting it back.

I contacted the FCC, told them of my problem and within 3 wks, I had my money back for AT&T. They suck

brb C

Update: I also filed a complaint with the FCC. This resulted in a call and e-mail from the AT&T Office of the President. The end result has been:

- Full restoration of funds.

- A promise to review security on GoPhone accounts.

- The information that there is no way for a GoPhone user to ask questions, seek assistance, or file a complaint via the AT&T web site. This must be obtained by calling GoPhone support (611) directly. I emphasized to the rep that this was poor customer service.

AT and T Lies and steals money.

ATT - AT and T Lies and steals money.
Updated by user May 28, 2012

On May 15, 2012 AT&T sent a refund of my minutes that I bought.

Original review Apr 27, 2012
I went on the AT&T Website to see if they had coverage in my area for their "Go-Phones". The Website showed that they do have coverage in my Area. I bought their Phone, Charged it, Activated it. And then used that phone to put minutes on the phone. After the money was added to my phone, AT&T sent a text message to me, Telling me to switch off my phone and then switch it back on. I did that and then the phone would only work for 911 calls only. Along the top of the screen (On the phone), Were two Icons, Meaning (1): 5 Bars antenna signal. Right next to it was an Icon Meaning (2): No Service available. I Called them, Requesting my money back, They told me I needed a better phone. Bait and Switch! I wrote the company a letter and requested a refund. They Ignored My Letter.

AT&T poked me in the eye again

Twice in the last year AT&T switched me over to paperless billing without my consent resulting in my u verse being disconnected for nonpayment.I told their customer service If I get a bill in the mail I pay It no bill no payment. So I had to pay twice a reconnection fee ,those m fers So now I get a cell bill for 389.00 I call customer service and ask why is my bill so high they didn't have a answer but reassured me that I only owed them 213.00 according to their records. Well all 4 of my cell phones and my home phone were disconnected for only paying 213 out of 389 and YES I must pay reconnection fees and they still don't have a answer as to why my bill was so much to begin with.WTF I fing hate AT&T can't wait for my contract to end then good bye AT&T I wouldn't *** on them If they were on fire.

At & T - Should NOT sell "Cell Phone INsurance"

I was unhappy with Verizon after being a loyal customer for 10 years with 3 phone numbers. They were unwilling to adjust a new pay-plan for me. I called several times and spoike to numerous so-called customer service reps, and supervisors. (after they hung themselves) I went to AT & T bought the I Phone and insurance. Well I had just moved lost my phone went immeditalty into the nearest AT & T thinking They would order a new phone being that I bought the insurance. WRONG they wanted to charge me $199 for a replacement phone, and at first when I asked IF I could use their computer to contact the insurance company they said we don't do that. "I said your selling insurance for a company that you won't let me contact them here in your store to insure the tracking device on phone and get a new one" They immediatly said "normally we don't allow customers to do this" WOW I thought to myself but contacted this sham of a company called Asurion insurance. I've alled several times- they won't even tell you what time zones their open in and what times their customer service comes in. I spent another few minutes logging on their contact list to log my complaint and to have someone call me- It's been 3 days. Moral of the story-before you by anything anymore in AMERICA go -online and check several websites; like Pissed consumer, BBB, Good House keeping, and any consumer government agency. These CYBER companies are miliking us for all they can. And there is no CYBER POLICE DEPARTMENT.

You are just another uneducated consumer who doesn't read anything or take any responsibility for what you do. An iPhone costs the cell phone companies $600 dollars.

Thats what they pay your beloved APPLE, in order to turn around and sell it to customers for $199. Plus, the insurance is just like car insurance. They charge you a deductible. How long would they be in business if they charged people $6 dollar s amonth and replaced a $600 dollar phone for FREE??

You left Verizon for a *** reason and you will probably leave ATT for a *** reason. Just go sign up for prepaid and stop your whining!
