I go into a an AT&T store to make a payment. The salesman informed me that if I pay my bill with cash, there would be a $5.00 'convenience' fee charged to my account to do so.

????? He explained that paying by check, debit or credit card doesn't require a 'third party' to be involved but cash does. ???? I left the store without paying.

I went home and called AT&T. I got the same thing from them. I talked to a supervisor who, the more he tried to validate their reasoning, was doing nothing more than making himself look ***. Telling me that it cost them extra to have a person take my money (versus a check, credit or debit card) BUT if I were to prepay each month...with cash...instead of paying a monthly bill AFTER using the service, there would be no extra charge to pay cash.

?????So, how is it that the CASH I pay AHEAD of time doesn't require a third party that costs AT&T but the cash I pay upon being billed DOES require a third party? Don't the people who work there get paid once they punch the clock and they are standing behind their desks whether they are doing anything or not OR is it that they get paid per function they preform? The supervisor could not answer my questions.

I'm aware of the fact that this country is in a state of financial disparity but last I've heard, cash still works.....unless you're dealing with AT&T.

I'm going to go shopping for another cell phone provider. I put AT&T in the same box with Bank of America.....too big for their britches.

Location: Spokane, Washington

I had to go into an AT&T store to have someone look at my phone. The voice mail was acting up.

While there, I was talking to the girl helping me about their $5.00 convenience charge policy and how I posted it on this site. She informed me that as of two weeks ago, AT&T's policy has changed and they are no longer charging for cash. BUT, that the store I went to originally to make a payment and was informed of this policy is not a real AT&T store, just a franchise kind of place, so they may still do that. Still, in my book, if you are going to represent yourself as a company, you should stick to their policies.

I wonder what would happen if I were to go in and pay them the exact amount owed on my bill and refuse to give them the extra $5.00? I'll post those results here, the next time that happens.

Type your message here I CALLED ATT MOBILITY THIS MORNING AND WANTED TO PAY MY BILL AND THEY SAID I HAD TO PAY $5.00 CONVENIENCE FEE AND I WANTED TO USE MY MASTERCARD. I ARGUED AND ASKED FOR A SUPERVISOR THE GUY TOLD ME THAT SUPERVISOR WAS NOT THERE.

I DIDN'T PAY MY BILL AFTER HE TOLD ME I COULD GO TO THE ATT STORE AND THEY WOULDN'T CHARGE ME THAT FEE. I TOLD HIM THAT I WAS 80 YEARS OLD AND DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE MY HOUSE. I USUALLY PAY BY MAIL BUT DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY IN MY ACCOUNT TO DO THIS. I HUNG UP ON HIM.

THEY ARE SO RUDE. I BELIEVE THERE IS A LAWSUIT GOING ON RIGHT NOW FOR THESE COMPANIES CHARGING US TO PAY OUR BILL.

I'll tell you one thing, I am cash only. No way in *** would I write checks, particularly the way they are now converted to electronic debits.

So "Get real" I hope you are still being snarky when you have money taken out of your precious bank account more than once, it does happen! or if your account is anyway compromised by human error.

I had a bank account once, I paid my electric bill by echeck, it was taken out 5 times! YES 5 TIMES, so I cancelled that account and will have NO MORE.

News flash: you arent important enough for big brother to be watching you. Put on your big boy pants and go get a bank account like the rest of the world..

Unless you have something to hide? (avoiding taxes or child support, are we?) Im glad they have went this way. Its not a convenience fee..

Its an *** tax. Or a ghetto tax.

It was good old American currency. The salesman told me I should go deposit my money into my checking account and either use my debit card or write a check. I would rather avoid paper trails when possible and it appears AT&T is in cahoots with big brother....

big b Mfy

If it is american currency, they should take it. A corporation that big is trying to make an extra buck by stealing your money.

They will lose my business after hearing this. Thanks
